I am offically a sports mom! The bigger boys never played sports when they were little. It was just to hard to schedule--Joe was always deployed, or worked long hours, my work schedule was never the same. So, unfortuantely for them, they never had that childhood experience. I wish they had. Now, Hankadoo is playing both soccer and softball. And, for a kid that has never played a sport before, he took to both like a fish takes to water! He has done great at both. He's attentive, he does what he's supposed to do, he leads. And, he's agressive. Not to the point, that he's a bully or ball-hog, but he takes control of the soccer ball if it comes close to him, and he's going to go after the ball at softball. His soccer team is the Vikings. Although, he was hoping to be the Colts! And, since his softball coach is a fireman, they are The Extinguishers.
As well as he's done the past few weeks, he's his own worst critic. He's so competitive, and if he doesn't do as well as he thinks he should have, he gets very upset. I hate that part of sports. I want him to have a good time, and enjoy it. I don't want him to think he has to score a goal, or have a great hit, every time in order to have a good day on the field. When he does meet his own expectations, he completely lights up, and that's what I love to see.
He had a great hit at softball last night, and my little man grinned from ear to ear. Those big green eyes of his just shining. It made me glad we signed him up. I had my reservations about doing sports. I didn't want to live at the ball park. I didn't want to be one of those 'sports parents' that drive me crazy. But, here we are...going to both soccer and softball practices on Monday nights, softball practices on Thursday's, soccer games on Saturday's, and as soon as the softball games start, there we will all sit, wearing our Extinguishers shirts, with TEAM HANK across the back!
